Feeling like a grandma...

Well, the pillow case for the baby pillow (AKA travel pillow) Claire sleeps on has been open at the seam. I have been looking at some scrap fabric from doing Matti & Hailee's photo board in their room thinking it would make a great pillow case. So, today, I sewed the old pillow case and made a new one from the scrap fabric. It was a bit snug, but nothing to waste! Even made a contrasting border...all before Claire woke from her nap!

Montana was once again set apart as a missionary tonight. Jared was in class and Martha and Claire were there. We kept it low key for him and followed his lead. So many emotions felt between the two times, but joy felt tonight for him.

So we made lunches for everyone to eat with dad, aka papa. We ended up spilling trail mix in the office and cream soda on the floor and all over Claire. We had to practically give Claire a bath in the women's bathroom at work. All kinds of laughing and giggling could be heard coming from the bathroom...while helping Claire, London asks why don't they have a baby changing station??? Hello, we are at W-O-R-K~~~

Well, today was her long awaited day! We arrived in the nick of time and 90 minutes later she emerged with braces on the top half. The bottom half will come later. She did not complain too much about pain. Savannah started off with Screaming Pink bands. Appointment with her sister when we return from Missouri.

At Girl's Camp...Durango Heights was so sweet that they brought a cake up for a Birthday Party!!! Our ward provided the craft and the girls got to visit with one another. Dad was even invited! It was a great first night at camp! We love you Savannah!

Jerry & I wake up to a more than a drip from the water softener in the garage...we had to get gas& ice, go by his parents to get the truck and motorcycle and we decided to stop at Home Depot to see if they had any repair kits for the water softener. Of course they did not...Jerry had dealt with the greening up pool last night, so I felt okay about that. Then he saved putting the timers on until today!I don't know how to set them and can't depend on Montana to do it. We have had as many as 3 break-ins over the past TWO weeks. I am more than a bit concerned. But he quickly got them set or so he thought.

Savannah and I started the morning saying our goodbyes to Dad & London as they both went off to Girls Camp...Jerry to help with Stake and London for her 4th year overnighter and hike. Jerry called and said he forgot his shoes, I raced up to the Stake Center and found one sister leaving to go up there and passed them off. I return home seeing how unkept the front yard looked. So I started raking (actually brooming them, it is easier) off the lawn. She come out to help which I was grateful for. She suggested we use the blower and get it done faster!

Cooler temps and back into the heat! A camping we will go! We went to Mt Charleston at Hilltop Campgrounds. We left town and seriously wondered how wet we would be. There was a smoke haze in town...we didn't know if it was winds blowing in a storm or a fire lurking in hills to the east. Still we drove up there as we had many anticipating the camp. It was great to do something as a family like that even it if was over night and a lot of work. Teanna and her family missed out on the fun, but Marco's family was in town, so that was important.

Grandma and Claire went to storytime at the new library. It was cute...20 minutes long/short. We sang songs listened to a book and sang some more songs. All babies under a year...there was quite a group. I wasn't the oldest person there!

All day at Alan's finishing up getting ready to sign over to tenants. LONG DAY. Savannah got sunburned, but worked hard as did London. Montana helped after we picked him up from his college class. Off home to clean up and get ready for a wedding reception for Ashely Squires Zockoll and then to a concert of the Little River Band at the Cannery. Shannon got us tickets tonight for four. We called Dana & Gary...it was a beautiful night for a concert!

Thursday we went on a picnic with Claire & Martha. She packed us lunch and we met her at the Exploration Park at Mountains Edge. We added a few picnicers, Matti & Hailee. So we gathered all our eggs for an Easter Egg hunt...only the wind decided to change our picnic fun. It progressively got worse as we were there. Claire did not like that wind...we sent Martha with just Claire and we packed up for her and met her at home later. It was a great idea...thanks Martha...we will have to try again over summer! Matti & Hailee did their Easter Egg hunt and we were out of there! In all that wind and picnicing...we did not get one picture of Claire & Martha! Thanks Martha for the picnic...great idea! Maybe we should take out a wind we should take out a "wind check," instead of a rain check!

Spring Break

YEAH! Sleep in and get a break in the routine...cleaning, catching up and tennis everyday so far! Tonight we went to the Bishop's Storehouse to serve there; bagged apples, cleaned the outside of trash and dirt, treated to icecream sandwiches!. The youth enjoyed themselves. YW left from there to go to the drive-in to see Rio since it was based in Brazil and that is their country. Pizza, candy, popcorn, soda...I think they all had a good time.
Up everyday by 6am to get up to the highschool to play tennis...by Thursday...it was more like 7am!

Savannah invited Heidi Pearson over, her Best Buddy, and they decorated cupcakes. They also watched Tangled together. Then tomorrow, it will be Town Square for them.

We made the trek to Utah for family. I went with Lois & Gerald and we stopped to pick up Linda Helda in Overton. Funeral home memorial was nice, but more than anything, it was good to be there as family support. I am so glad Lois went there to be with her sister. I was worried about Verla and her health. She was doing much better than I expected. Jerry & Shannon come up the following day. The funeral service was very nice. I did good until Mike Purdy got up to say the closing prayer, but he had something he wanted to share. He told about motorcycle racing in the desert and crashing his bike. He hiked back to the road to get a ride...I wondered where he was going with the story...then he said it was Jim and him that went back tofind the bike. They eventually found the bike and had a bon fire. They sat there and enjoyed the fire. Mike said he neverhad a brother, and Jim was that brother. He then turned his thoughts to how he not only lost his sister, but a brother. His words were touching as he asked for those not to remember him for what he had done, but for who he was.

Gerald, Jerry, and Shannon were pall bearers. Even little Robbie was a pall bearer, there were 21 in all. Just an unbelievable memory. I pray for the comfort to come to those left behind.

Another violent tremble in the earth brings tsunami. Nobuko's family is but hours away from the epicenter. They seem to be okay via message to Nobuko. Their building codes there are stringent on earthquakes and not as much devastation as occured in Thailand in December 2004; however, the nuclear reactor closest to the epicenter and Nobuko's family is showing signs of distress.

Days later the earthquake was upgraded to a 9.0 after much study of the seismic activity. Nick Zohovetz was there vacationing with his wife that is from Japan. They, too, are safe.

It has been a busy day! Nothing like wait to the last minute! I did have the chocolate and cards...just needed a few trinkets to give away. I started my morning with Claire grocery shopping after kids were at school. She slept until the last 30 minutes there. She took a bottle and was pretty good. She is sitting up know and when my mom sends me the grocery cart cover she is making...that will change things up! At 11:15 I met Raquel and her mom at the house so Raquel could decorate their room and leave candy and gifts...They were suprised for sure!!!So for my girls...I got stuffed animals...Claire got a hippopottamus, London a pink monkey and Savannah a blue dog.

Montana got a red water cooler bottle and Cherida a black cosmetic bag with hot pink lips and nail polish inside. Micah got a cool metal Spider Man box with candy, sport erasers, sport drink, bakugan and of course, a Hot Wheel (a 1970 green Monte Carlo). I have been wanting to get the Just Dance Wii game and it was now only $39.99! I got it! In each of the kids cards, I put a letter as a clue. Savannah had C, London had A, N, Montana had D and Cherida had E in LR. Savannah had it figured out in the car before she even got home, but I put the game in the Wii game storage area and their older siblings had not opened their clues yet. I just brushed off the Just Dance guess.
The girls were babysitting tonight and it gave me the chance to prepare a nice meal and have it by candlelight. Jerry went to Shannon's after work and helped thin the Mulberry tree our front and also brought home the baby bed he had for Hailee. Shannon purchased a dresser for their room and needed a place for it. Worked out great. Now, I have to buy some sheets and Claire will be able to rest comfortably. The girls walke in and see the baby bed at the door in pieces and the candles burning and wondered what our clue was. They created a dilusional story of me having a baby!

We enjoyed a nice dinner with everyone and then off for the $1 Red Velvet Cheesecake Blast at Sonic and back home for some DANCING!!! I had to make them turn it off!
She is now officially sitting up without help.

Heart Attacking...

The girls and I went out tonight as planned and heart attacked some garage doors. Grandma & Grandpa Englehart and we got a 2 for 1 there with Jess & Betty's car there. Of course, we did get more than we bargained for there...I started to drive off and London wasn't in and I look over and she is sitting on the running board laughing which in turn made me start laughing. Do you know how much water I have been drinking today??? I told myself not to laugh...I couldn't help it...we were all laughing and then, it happened. DANG IT! Two and a half years being clean! We had to go home so I could change my clothes...girls RAN inside to tell dad who was nice enough to take photo evidence. Off we go to Bishop Cahill's home and down to Sierra Waldron with a final stop at Raquel's house.

Wow! Renters call to tell us there is a murder in front of Alan's house. Talk about immediate stress! I called our tennant and he does not know of all details, unaware of murder, but someone tried to stab the female tennant. I also discussed the possibility of someone living in the attached storage unit. And that there have been a lot of cars, so many that the neighbor, tennant in 1272 house had to ask them to move a car so they could get out. WHAT the heck!

Jerry did call Tod Williams to get the details of what was going on. Yes, someone was shot in front of Alan's, shell casings are in his driveway, his carport is roped off and investigation is pursuing, but no apparent connection to the tennants of the house. I think we will have to be a little more scrutinizing of that household.

Our Youth group tonight went to Wal-mart looking for Waldo, well the two ward's Bishopric members. Bishop Placios, Brother Dobbins, Brother Tod Williams, Brother Justin Williams and Jerry. The kids had a blast! They were running around everywhere and trying to be polite...thank goodness the store was pretty empty.

Jerry ran home and shaved his beard and mustache off. Justin Williams had shorts and blue hoodie. Tod Williams had a blue hoodie and brought his nephew that totally threw it off. Brother Dobbins had a tie dye shirt and a longer hair wig and Bishop Placios just went to HIDE in the Garden Department.

I brought my camera, but no chip...thankfully, Savannah brought her camera!

We purchased a Hot Air Popcorn maker today and the girls made popcorn. Dad showed them how and told them about melting the butter. Cherida went out and purchased some popcorn seasoning that the girls also tried. They could not taste it and dad said adding a little butter would help make the seasoning stick. So London asks if she can use light butter. Sure I told her. She puts it in the microwave and then I realize its been in too long. She pulls it out and she melted an ENTIRE stick of butter!!! My BLONDE girlie!

Well, this is the day we got the phone call from President Lou Richards to pick up Montana from the airport this next evening. Details of his itinerary would be following the next day to Jerry's email. I cannot explain the emotions felt. Life is full of unexpected events and one must continue to move forward...love those around them...and pray that lessons will be learned.

So the story is...I needed to do my hair and put her in the carrier to have her set in the bathroom with me and hopefully be entertained by the hair dryer noise and what grandma was doing. The first picture is how she looked when I went from the family room to my bathroom...her back is arched and she was mad. The second picture is my attempt to make her happy...I loaded up Jerry's sink with my fluffy robe and placed Claire in there...and she just sat fat and happy checking things out around grandpa's side of the counter...knocking over things and looking at the lights. It worked and I got my hair done!

It snowed in the wee hours last night...just a dusting, but it has been snowing since 6:30! Now, we are talking HUGE flakes like down feathers...it is wet heavy snow..good for snowman making! We got about an inch right now and its 7:50am. The skies are low and WHITE! Who knows when it will let up!

Cardio Version for Lois...

She went in today around 5:30 and didnot have the procedure done until 10:15am. Went down her esophogas unlike originally planned and no blood clots were found, so that was a blessing that they could continue on by shocking the heart. I did not go up as I had Claire and really do not want to expose her to anything. Jerry & I went to see her this afternoon and she was comfortable minus the IV. Her chest was a little sore.

We were off to pick-up London and Raquel Claudio from the church New Year's Eve dance and to drop off Hailee & Matti at Shannon's. We left with 2 sleeping children and stopped at Rainbow and Russell to catch a glimpse of the firework display on the strip and BOTH woke up even though we were quiet! Off to get London at the Monte Cristo chapel...wait, wait and more wait then they finally come out around 12:30. Dropped off the little girls to Shannon's and home for a safe drive!

We are getting settled in for the night and as I was in our bathroom, I heard lots of water pressure noise outback...I mention it to Jerry. Open the bathroom window to the house alarm going off and I see the spa empty and spraying water everywhere! We both get dressed and he gets tools and I get flashlights. As I was following him outside...I see him in the middle of a FALL! Oh, my gosh...all I could think about was his tail bone and what the heck did he fall on!

We have started this annual thing of going to Mt Charleston for breakfast on the last day of the year. See some snow and enjoy family time.

We had to sneak Matti onto a sled this year...she was not so happy with us. Maybe next year there will be laughter and giggles about snow and sleds!

December 21, 2010 We got to share a little Christmas with Claire before they left for Idaho. Things will sure change next year!

December 23, 2010 Opportunity Village's Magical Forest. We were given tickets from Brother Frey at church, so we went. His company, Orange Geeks, sponsored a tree there. Oddly enough, Savannah ran into her Best Buddies Chair person over the Las Vegas Chapters and they were selling bracelets. We bought bracelets for her and Heidi Pearson. As we waited in line, to enter the forest, Cherida and Savannah went to get us some hot cocoa. We were greeted by Chuck Craig's wife and daughter waiting in line also. So we meandered with them a bit.

December 24, 2010 I was shopping in Target and got a call from Shannon. Lodie's son, Tommy had died. WHAT???
He is the same age as Shannon. Lodie just had TWO, yes TWO back surgeries about 2 weeks apart. I knew this was going to be hard for her. I have been calling her every so often as she has been off post surgery. She has been in so much physical pain. Now, the emotional distress. My heart was so heavy. I wished so much I could give her a hug. Lodie was the one to find him. He passed away in his sleep and recently had changed medicines. What grief they must endure. May God be with them.
December 24, 2010 Yes, we are all around the house as we all were here for Christmas Eve Dinner...phone rings and Savannah picks up and says hello...She goes, "Montana!?!" We all RUN to the den for the video test! I wished I would have thought to take a photograph. My parents, Jerry's parents were all here...Shannon was at work and Teanna left 15 minutes prior. Montana seemed a bit on edge, like he pushed back tears. I was not fond of a comment made by his companion..."stupid questions he gets all the time." He looked good and it was great to see and hear from him. We talked about 25 minutes. He called from the Peterson's home. It was great to see him and talk to him!!!

December 29, 2010 I knew exactly where I was when I got the phone call on my cell. I was in Shannon's house in the hall by the girls bedroom. It was Montana calling, I knew that something was wrong. He was calling to come home. President Greer suggested he call home. Time stood still as we talked. He did not have a reason for coming home other than he just wanted to return home. We convinced him to wait it out to the next transfer which was not that far away.
We spoke for just over a half hour, Jerry was with me. We did not share this with the family, praying that he could continue on serving. President Greer contacted us confirming the conversation. He told us of an experience he and his companion had a week earlier. They were waiting at the library doors for it to open. There was a man telling them they were going to hell and were no good and going on and on.
There was another young man as a spectator also waiting to go inside. He watched them and neither of them responded to any of the adverse comments. This young man approached them in the library and told them that he was a member although inactive. It was watching their example that prompted him to commit to himself to begin on a path to return to church. What a wonderful example of Christ-like love! Montana is touching lives. Good job! We spoke with him for about 25 minutes and President Greer suggested to Montana to call us again to confirm his decision. We left the conversation with love and support for him.

The girls did a nice performance at the Band & Orchestra concerts. A time where we can go attend and feel of the Christmas season without stress! I appreciate the love of music and their willingness to develop their talent!

Gall Bladder common thread

So...Lois was hospitalized while in Missouri for gall bladder issues and on Friday night, December 3rd...I thought I was getting to bed EARLY and I got a phone call from Shannon that my parents were drving to the hospital emergency and mom was experiencing chest pains so much she could hardly talk! Off Jerry & I go...she was clearly in pain, but comforted somewhat to be in hospital care. They treated her as if it was a heart attack and ran tests, EKG, stress test and the enzyme testing. They gave her morphene and within a half hour was able to find more comfort and even slept. I went home at that point around 1:30 am. Nearly 12 hours later they determined it problaby was not a heart attack. It was not until the next night they knew it was not, but she was admitted to the hospital. Visitors came over the weekend and she waited patiently! Sunday morning they did a cat scan and made a positive diagnosis for the gall bladder being inflammed. It seems this pain can appear as a heart attack. Monday night at 9:30pm, her gall bladder was laprascopically removed. She bounced back remarkably well...

Live Nativity

For years the redrock Stake put on a live Nativity at the chapel on Charleston est of the water district. It drew huge crowds and added a nice Christmas spirit to the season. Two or three years ago, they had to stop for reasons I do not know. This year it was performed again but almost in our back yard! The stage setting and backdrops were awesome. The donkey even brayed to add to the ambience of the night. Savannah wanted to touch the sheep and donkey, so we made our way through the crowd...such simple things in life make us curious!

Nipple Cream vs Butt Paste

Okay, so I need glasses to read by. I was changing Claire's diaper and she looked a bit read, so I decided to put some cream on her butt. I got in the diaper bag and looked around and only found one tube. I pulled it away as far as I could and seen lanolin...okay, that is it. I squeeze the tube and it comes out in a small stream, so I think to myself, that is odd, but whatever.

Later, Jerry is home and I am changing the diaper and ask for the purple tube in the diaper bag...about that time, Martha walks in and she asks, "why are you putting nipple cream on her bottom?" Hmm...I laugh and replied, "it said lanolin!" There was no butt paste in the bag anywhere!

Crazy to have a night for Tennis Awards Night...the night before Thanksgiving! So off we go in support...there were about 10 students there. It was all a good night on the town.

It seems that we gave Hailee some MARKERS...we quickly got it off of her and thankfully the floor. And would you look at the time! I was aiming for dinner around noon. FINALLY, once in my book I can say we ate ON TIME!

He will be serving with Elder David Urbina in Ellensburg 3rd & CleElum wards in Ellensburg, Washington. Lisa Morrison said it would be a beautiful Christmas there! He looks wonderfully well in the photo!

Las Vegas Wranglers night

The four of us went out to see the Las Vegas Hockey team. We had a great time! Hockey has tamed down a bit...we did not have any action until the last 30 minutes. Wranglers won 3 to 1 against Victoria Canada!
Then that was not enough weekend entertainment, so we Red Boxed a movie... Grown Ups! That was a cute movie...good pick London!

Lots of Life Celebration events this weekend

Friday night we began by celebrating Tasi Hanneman's receiving his Eagle. Congratulations Tasi! Saturday, we said goodbye to a sweet woman only a mere 5 years older than I. Sister Lisa Scott. Her family has made such an impact on my life and given wonderful examples to live by. Although Lisa had never married, she had a wonderful example to follow, patience of a Saint and kind hearted and always willing to help! Her funeral service honored the woman she was in this mortal life. Jim Howard said it very eloquently, "to not have sorrow in death would mean to not have love in life."

Sunday we moved to another celebration. Jared blessed Claire today. Her Grandma Sorensen made her a beautiful blessing dress. We got her a little white bracelet to wear and she wass very good through the blessing. Not one peep we heard, but mom had to leave as soon as Sacrament was passed to nurse her, she was getting a little fussy. Carolyn and Jean Brown were there in Proxy for Lois & Gerald, since they were in Missouri.

Why does she do that? After two cataract removal surgeries, Lois & Gerald were off to Missouri for from October 30th to November 18th. She arrived at airport on Saturday and checked into the hospital by Monday. It was tought to be the gall bladder and they were going to remove it and then she was going to be sent to Barnes Hospital. Now, they were concerned about her afibulation which we were alerted about post cataract removal and I made an appointment with a cardiologist for their return. Not there, you get different stories, so I cannot do anything but wait their arrival to Las Vegas.
